Description

Overview:

The Project Engineer will lead the engineering team with advanced degrees of direct project responsibilities while maintaining an in-depth knowledgebase of the telecommunications site development process. Project work will focus on new site development of macro and small cell sites, the modification of existing telecommunications facilities, fiber optic networks, and other project types as required. Responsibilities will focus on the accurate and efficient production of engineering deliverables and maintaining effective job flow while managing multiple projects. Project Engineer assists the Engineering Market Manager with the delegation of assignments, resource allocation, personnel management, and the oversight of quality and timeliness of deliverables while utilizing an understanding of client-specific telecommunications equipment and their usage. Advanced problem solving and analytics will be employed and shared with the team as well as mentorship and training.

Responsibilities:

  • Design of new conduit routes for fiber optic utility companies from existing infrastructure to proposed destination in public right-of-way and private property
  • Design of existing fiber optic facilities within the public for permanent or temporary relocation in the public right-of-way
  • Supervise, manage and perform quality analysis and quality control for team of engineers in the production of design drawings, construction drawings, cost estimates and other contract documents for various telecommunication structures and buildings.
  • Oversee development of construction plans for telecommunications client equipment upgrades and modifications
  • Assist Engineering Market Manager with final review of production deliverables and professionally endorse (sign and/or seal) reports, plans, and other contract documents as needed
  • Supervise, manage, engineer and design:
    • New and upgraded telecommunications antenna locations from existing infrastructure to proposed destination in public right-of-way and private property
    • New conduit routes for fiber optic utility companies from existing infrastructure to proposed destination in public right-of-way and private property
    • Existing fiber optic networks and facilities within the public for permanent or temporary relocation in the public right-of-way 
  • Interact with internal multi-disciplinary team members to expedite project completion and approvals
  • Create effective job flow by tracking assigned tasks and prioritizing completion of assignments accordingly
  • Maintain NB+C CAD standards and templates
  • Routinely produce accurate drawings promptly and efficiently
  • Learn new telecommunications equipment and client-specific equipment and their usage
  • Evaluate designs for constructability
  • Perform, review and approve structural analysis reports, construction drawings, and other construction contract documents with a high level of accuracy and strict attention to detail
  • Collaborate with Engineering Market Manager and internal stakeholders to ensure efficient, effective, and innovative approach to meet the client’s needs
  • Provide guidance and training to junior engineering team members
  • Conduct annual performance appraisals in Saba Cloud for the engineering staff, including goal setting, career pathing and ongoing feedback
  • Collaborate with Engineering Market Manager to identify and correct project performance issues
  • Assist the Engineering Market Manager with the daily operations of the engineering team


Requirements

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering or Engineering Technology required. Advanced degree preferred
  • 5+ years’ engineering experience required, OSP Fiber experience preferred
  • EIT required, PE preferred
  • AutoCAD required, Civil 3D preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Extensive technical experience and knowledge in civil principles as well as applicable design guides and standards required
  • Competency in reading, understanding and interpreting complex building and construction drawings
  • Engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards
  • Experience with design of stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, and landscaping plans
  • Ability to review and analyze site documentation and gather necessary information to complete the assignment
  • Knowledge in construction practice and principles
  • Proficiency in building codes and standards used in the telecommunications industry and their application
  • Ability to research and draw upon engineering knowledge to yield feasible and creative solutions
  • Critical thinking and problem solving for complex designs
  • Professional and applicable understanding of project management principles with proven a proven track record of budgeting, forecasting, and cost management abilities
  • Ability to work autonomously without supervision required
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills
  • Telecommunications and/or utility experience required, design experience preferred
  • Practical knowledge of all telecommunications site development disciplines, including Site Acquisition, Land Use, and Construction Management
  • Industry knowledge and technology trends preferred
  • Experience in developing and reviewing project quality plans, contract documents and project specifications
  • Ability to manage multiple functions/tasks in a fast-paced environment
